All due respects to the classic country albums Charlie recorded, but the full-on gospel Silver Linings may well be the best album he recorded during his tenure at Epic. It’s a stirring collection from the standard gospel repertoire. Simple, elegant renditions of "Down By The Riverside," "Were You There?," "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," and seven more gospel favorites showcase Charlie giving praise to the Lord through heartfelt vocals and graciously understated, yet powerful, piano arrangements. One gets a sense that by the time of this recording in 1976, Charlie had said all he had wanted to say in the more commercial genres and was returning to the taproot of his Arkansas childhood. A must buy!
